Training

When I train my dogs I train them to the rules that the AKC hunt tests use. Steady to wing and shot is a good practice to use to keep dogs from chasing birds. It gives the hunters a better chance to shoot the low flying birds and lets the dog watch the birds go down making the retrieve more successful.

When young dogs start out here they will be exposed to birds and gun shots; as well as the basics, sit, stay, come and heal. At the same time they are learning those basic commands I will get out the wing attached to the fishing string and have them start pointing, and holding points. After they have a few weeks of the basics we will start working them in the Field. I train the dogs to quarter (side to side) in the Field and will get a few birds out to expose them to. I think that the more birds that the dogs get into the better it is for them and the owner. Once the dog is ready the bird launcher comes out and the dogs get some birds shot over them to retrieve. The dogs will be exposed to other dogs, as well as wild and pin raised birds (quail, chucker, pheasants, and pigeons).

When we send our pups to their new homes they will be guaranteed to point, retrieve and will not be gun shy. This gives the new owners all the abilities to start a successful hunting dog (given the dog gets all the proper training).

Training starts at $400 a month with a minimum of one month. The dog is trained to the owners wants and needs. If the owner wants the dog to compete in Field trials or hunt tests its at the owners expense weather the dog passes or fails at the competitions. It takes many months or even years to get titles on some dogs.

During hunting season I do not compete in the hunt test or Field trials. I feel it is better for the dogs to get more time hunting than sitting at the trials for its brace to start.

We also offer boarding for dogs of any kind. This is great for the dogs, they will have the chance to get out of the kennel to exercise each day. Boarding is $10 a day and the second dog is only $5 a day (granted that they kennel together).
